WOOLEY PINGLE – Accessibility
ARRIVING
The village of Bonsall is hilly, with some steep narrow roads and lanes, all are perfectly drivable and navigable with care.
Wooley Pingle is just up the hill from the Barley Mow Pub. Once outside the pub, you will need to turn right and travel up Arter Hill. This part is quite narrow and steep but there is adequate parking and space to manoeuvre at the top.
Please drive slowly and carefully up the hill and be considerate of neighbouring properties on your arrival and departure from the site. Be mindful that walkers with dogs also use the road.
We will ask you at the time of booking for the make and model of the vehicle you intend to arrive in.
The car parking area is level with a tarmac surface.
We, the property owners live at Arter Hill Cottage, please call here first and we will assist you up to the Shepherd’s Hut.
The Shepherd’s hut is situated on land above our cottage and is accessed via a flight of stone steps and a gravel path. It is a relatively steep walk, but we have rails and lights to assist. Suitable footwear (flat shoes) would be recommended.
Please note the site is not suitable for those with mobility problems.
ACCESS TO THE SHEPHERDS HUT
The Shepherds Hut is approached via a hard-stoned path leading to the seating area and the oak steps up to the Hut’s interior. There are 2 French doors for easy access, there is a raised threshold to step over.
Once inside the Hut, you will find the facilities are all contained in one space. The floor is oak wood with some rugs for comfort, take care they do not slip.
There is a double bed that is made up and permanently in situ. There is a climb to get up into the bed; we provide a small stool to assist. Guests do need to be relatively agile!
The bathroom is situated at the opposite end of the hut to the bed. There is a shower, toilet and a small wash basin.
The area directly to the front of the hut is a flat stone/gravel surfaced area for guests to use for relaxing.
Alarms – there is a smoke alarm and a carbon monoxide alarm that will emit an audible warning if there is a problem.
UPPER SHED ‘The Posh Shed’ – BEHIND THE OWL SCULPTURE
A heated shed is provided for guests to the right of the Hut, accessed up several stone steps.
This shed is for guests to dry off wet clothing and wet/muddy boots. We wish to discourage mud in the Hut itself.
LOWER SHED – LEFT OF THE CAR PARKING AREA.
Guests can ask to store/secure bikes in this shed if required. At their own risk.
THE IMMEDIATE OUTSIDE AREA
The Shepherds Hut is located within the grounds of Arter Hill Cottage (our home). Guests have exclusive access to this area immediately around the hut; we advise that guests stick to the pathways provided and for safety wear appropriate footwear suitable for grass and woodland tracks that can be wet at all times of the year.
The stone steps leading up the hut can be slippery when wet and especially so if the icy snow has fallen.
The wildflower meadow to the front of the Hut is home to bees and butterflies guests can relax and enjoy observing them and also the birdlife.
The fields surrounding house sheep and cows that belong to neighbouring farmers.
From the property guests can access numerous walks, some grass tracks are mown but not always so care is required, as when out walking any marked paths as they can be uneven and slippery, especially when it has rained, or heavy dew has formed.
